Host Warren Local remained unbeaten in four starts Tuesday night with a resounding 80-33 triumph over visiting Gallipolis Gallia Academy in the “Warrior Dome†at Vincent. It was the 2011-12 Southeastern Ohio Athletic League opener for both schools.
GAHS suffered its fourth straight loss following an opening season win over Rock Hill. The Blue Devils are 1-4 overall and 0-1 in SEOAL action. Warren is 4-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.
For Gallipolis, Nick Saunders was the only player in double figures with 10 points. The Warriors held Bryce Amos to seven points while Justin Bailey and Caleb Craft added five points apiece.
Warren Local placed three players in double figures, led by 6-4 sophomore Evan French’s 17 points. Reece Patton, 6-4 sophomore added 14 and 5-10 senior Jeremy Hastie finished with 13.
Gallipolis connected on 13 of 39 field goal attempts for 33 percent. GAHS was three of 11 behind the arc for 27 percent. Gallipolis was four of 10 at the foul line for 40 percent. GAHS had just eight personal fouls. The Blue Devils picked off 17 rebounds, five by Caleb Craft, and made 17 turnovers against the Warriors full-court press and had six assists, two each by Amos and Bailey. GAHS had three steals.
WLHS was 32 of 66 from the field for 48 percent. Behind the arc, the Warriors were eight of 18 for 44 percent. The Warriors were eight of 10 at the foul line for 80 percent. Warren Local had eight personal fouls, 38 rebounds, 11 by Knost, 15 assists, three by Patton and 12 steals, three each by Hastie and French.
Gallipolis led twice in the contest, 5-2 on a trey by Nick Saunders at the 7:11 mark in the first period and 7-6 on a short jumper by Saunders at the 5:06 mark in the first.
Warren Local then soared to a 21-10 lead after one period. The Warriors were on top 33-19 at halftime. In the second half, Warren outscored GAHS 47-14.
Gallipolis will host Logan Friday in a tripleheader, then journey to Meigs Saturday for a non-league tripleheader. The freshman games start at 5 p.m. Warren will host Portsmouth Friday in the league’s top game of the year. The Warriors will battle Waverly in a non-league game on Saturday at the Convocation Center in Athens.
The Warriors made it a clean sweep Tuesday. WLHS won the freshman game 33-31 on a pair of foul shots by Blake Kidder with 13.1 seconds left to play.
The Warrior yearlings trailed 9-4 after one period, 16-12 at halftime and 23-20 going into the final period, but outscored GAHS 13-8 to claim the victory. Warren evened its record at 2-2. GAHS fell to 1-3 on the season.
Kidder led the winners with 17 points. Eric Sheets led GAHS with nine points. Trevor NcNeal added eight.
In the reserve game, the Little Warriors pulled away in the final period to defeat the Blue Imps, 56-38. Warren led 19-11 after one period, 31-19 at halftime and 41-31 after three periods. WHS outscored the Imps 15-7 in the final period.
Alex White led GAHS with 11 points. Logan Allison had eight. GAHS dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play. Warren’s reserves remained unbeaten in four starts and are 1-0 in league play. Matt Drayer led Warren with 18 points. Andrew Drayer finished with 16.
