[color=brown:e30amhmt]That school is in Iowa, not Parkersburg WV. I wonder what the motivation was? [/color:e30amhmt]

You are correct…it wasn’t WV. He has died though…I’d have to guess it was something personal in his life though. Still, if I was going to kill someone, I’d at least try to hide that I was the one who did it, not do it in front of all those witnesses. Either the person was insane or had some serious rage going on there!

Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach Ed Thomas was shot multiple times this morning at the school’s weight room and died a short time later at a hospital, officials have confirmed.

Thomas was shot at point blank range, including once in the head, according to the school’s business manager Pat Gosch. No one else was injured in the incident.

The family of Ed Thomas released a statement through Covenenant Medical Center in Waterloo:

"The family of Ed Thomas would like the media to know that Ed passed away shortly after arriving at Covenant Medical Center," the statement read.

Sports secretary Sue Muller said Thomas was supervising the early-morning weightlifting in Parkersburg when the shooting happened around 8 a.m. About 50 students were present at the time.

Thomas was life-flighted to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Muller said.

An adult male believed to be the gunman was arrested after the incident was taken to the Butler County Jail in Allison. When asked if the man was a parent of a student, Butler County spokeswoman Holly Fokkena said, "not that I’m aware of, no."

"We do want to articulate, because I’m sure there are a lot of concerned parents, that no students were hurt or injured in this incident," said Jessica Lown, spokeswoman for the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Counselors are on scene for students, including several who witnessed the shooting.

Thomas has coached football for 37 years and has a career record of 292-84. He has led the Falcons to 19 state playoff appearances and two state titles, in 1993 and 2001.

They should just save the tax payer money and shoot the person who did it in the head until he dies.

The shooter was a former student and football player. He had mental problems and had just been released from a mental institution on Tuesday.

Ouch! My wife had a guy working for her a few years ago that prompted us getting a phone call [i:1zhrgivi](we were in Athens, Ohio watching the mighty Fighting Tigers play)[/i:1zhrgivi] telling us that a threat had been made on her life. The sheriff would not [i:1zhrgivi](apparently by law, they’re not supposed to give details…they are only required to tell you a threat has been made) [/i:1zhrgivi]We found out a week later that the guy was schizophrenic and had been hearing voices telling him to kill her :!:

At that time…she had no idea he was like that and no one else did that worked with him had picked up on he was losing it either at. She only was in contact with him maybe once every two weeks too but she happened to give him an evaluation the day before the call and she even gave him a good raise and a good report and we were both stunned to get the call :122246 He’s no longer working and hardly bares any physical resemblance to who he was just a few years back. He’s very disturbed and while there’s been no threats made since (that we know of)..you’re always wondering in the back of your mind if he’s going to show up or not, always.

On the lighter side [i:1zhrgivi](cause…you have to have one when there’s a situation like this ;-) )[/i:1zhrgivi] Now, I have wondered, after being married to her for 29 years if she’s a devil or something… I have never gotten that conformation like he did

Funeral is today…RIP
