Correctable Error

Here is the situtation:

Player A is fouled the team is in the bonus.

Player A misses free throw and a teammate of Player A gets the rebound and is fouled shooting. (no time has run off the clock)

The home book tells the officals that Player A should have been in the double bonus.

Here is the Question:

a) is this a correctable error?

b) should player A be given his second attempt and then his teammate give his two foul shot attempts?

c) Since no time ran off the clock and it was a dead ball situtation, should player B, be given his shot attempts?

The way that you explained it, makes perfect sense.

But, that isn’t the way the officals handled it.

They award the second foul shot and then the other two shots to player B

I argued the point, but it was kinda like wrestling a pig in mud, after awhile you realize the pig enjoys it.

just want to throw something out here to discuss… how is it possible for player to rebound and get fouled in the act of shooting but yet no time run off the clock???

The clock keeper knew that it was a two shot foul, therefore he didn’t start the clock after the first shot.

It has always been my understanding that there are (5) correctable errors and they all have to do with scoring. How can you call a 2nd personal foul on a dead ball with a foul shot remaining. Wouldn’t you simply ignore the dead ball foul as preventive officiating?

Player (B) should not have been awarded a foul shot? How would you like to be a Senior and lose your final game of your H.S. career because an official didn’t know the rules? I can recall a game many years ago where a team lost a sectional game when a TIMER let the last (3Sec.) run off of the clock while the two teams were walking to the other end of the floor to shoot a one plus one foul shot. The team shooting the foul shot was behind (1) point and the shooter was 11 for 11 prior to the time running off the clock. By the way the losing team was escorted from the floor by the cops. OHSAA said that there is not such thing as a protest when the losing school filed a protest with them?

Then this is one case where I would have probably been going to jail for assault on a clock keeper and 3 refs.

It is sad to see officials who mess up, and cause points to be lost for someone who earned them
